“Say a prayer” is the latest single from recording artist Devano Saprano and the first release from the Nanimus Music 12-track compilation LP “Hola prayer riddim”. Devano’s contribution is a heartfelt prayer where he addresses how lost the human race has become but notes he can see the good within us all, although it is not always obvious. The song begins with the piano being played under the lyrics of the chorus and slowly begins to build as drums are introduced which helps to balance the song. Devano’s smooth, buttery tone is accompanied by a light sprinkling of feminine backing vocals to emphasise the purity of his voice.
During the chorus he states “a prayer a day keeps the devil away, that’s what my mama told me” religion is often at the core of most Caribbean upbringings particularly in Jamaica so that is a direct reference to that. Additionally, the beat of the track is one that sounds familiar and encourages nostalgia of a classic reggae song, whist being a new and fresh sound.
Devano Saprano isn’t new to music with previous releases Real to Life and Material Girl (to name a few) his vocals are always consistent, and he is never afraid to try a new sound. He knows his capabilities and plays to his strengths without fear. He is certainly one to watch out for in the near future.
Say a Prayer available on all platforms from Friday 24th July 2020.
